Ethernet cable. If you can find a way to hide it or run it neatly along, it should work.
However, Cat5 and Cat5e are not very reliable if you have a cable that is longer than 30 feet, and you have two male ends on said cable. (A normal cable)
If you have any experience or know anyone who is capable of it, you could put an ethernet jack on one end, connect that jack to either the xbox or the router, and plug the other (male) end into the other device.
A bit complex, but it’s cheaper than the $99 adapter.

Ethernet has no problems unless the cord gets cut
wireless has too many problems

Hmm, 2 conflicting answers so here’s mine. I have computer in dining room with wireless router. Son’s 360 is in his bedroom above with proper cable going to the router. I have 360 wireless in the living with a belkin wireless gaming adapter. They are a lot cheaper than the microsoft version. The wireless 360 works very well with no lag but it may take you a while to set up. The previous comment about wireless being unreliable is not necessarily true. My set up is excellent and meant I didn’t have to run another cable 30 feet round the house to where the router is. I also have a good signal from the adapter to the router.
I just wondered why you said where your computer is. Are you on a cable or old type usb modem. I would prefer the wireless router option as this is what we need having 3 laptops in our household but if you just have a pc and the xbox then the cable would be the cheaper option. I set mine up like a telephone Extension and just went straight through the wall with the cable. If you are not on cable broad band but have a telephone extent ion in your bedroom you could get a wireless router, plug it into your telephone socket in your bedroom, plug the 360 into the router and use a wireless usb adapter in your computer to connect to the internet. If you need any help getting set up with xbox live drop me an email.
