What will happen if install an external wireless adapter?
I have an internal wireless card that is working in great already built into my laptop. However I would like to know what will happen if I install an external wireless adapter to it. Will installing it have any undesirable effects on the built in wireless or will it have any positive effects such as boosting the range?

Then an external wireless adapter will be installed

It will not boost the range nor impact the existing one (most likely) but you will have to select which one to use. Computers are designed to have multiple network connections (typically wired in the old days) so it can handle it.
These will just act like two separate network cards – there is no cumulative benefit.
You should ensure that they are using two different signals and not impacting each other.
