Linksys Wireless Router used as a wifi adapter?

Here’s the scenario: We used to have two separate routers in our home network- some Westell router and of course the trusty Linksys WRT54G router as a range extender. However, when we switched to the AT&T internet, those guys brought their own special router, which replaced both of our existing ones. So the deal is, those two perfectly good routers have been sitting in the closet, collecting dust and god knows what else. And we happen to have an extra PC in the basement, also gathering dust. Since we’re always fighting for the computer that has the printer attached to it, especially when it comes to school projects, I decided to set up a home server from the computer in the basement, with a printer attached to it so we can print from anywhere in the house. Since the ATT router is upstairs, I have no way of connecting the basement PC (soon to be server) to the home network except for a wireless adapter, which, considering the amount of wireless junk we already have, I really don’t want to buy.

Bottom line: is there any way I can configure the Linksys router to be used as wireless adapter for the PC, or
would configuring it as a Wireless Bridge allow it to "talk" to the primary router

thanks for any feedback
I’ve done my homework as far as DD-WRT is concerned; however, the one thing I didn’t understand was, after downloading the new firmware, how does one "flash" it to the router? I heard that you have to transfer the new firmware to the router by means of the web user interface, but I have yet to find such an interface. Thanks for responding!

How to set up my wireless router as a bridge?

Here’s the deal:

I have a Buffalo router (main router) upstairs, running Tomato firmware. Every device works fine with it (wirelessly) except my Xbox 360 which just can’t see it for some reason. So I have a Linksys WRT54G v4 running Tomato that I plan to set up in the basement along with the Xbox 360. How do I set up the Linksys so that it acts as a client and connects to the Buffalo upstairs? Do I need WDS mode, or "Wireless Client" or "Wireless Bridge"?

Thanks!

First time wireless internet user – help?

Hello, I’m thinking about setting up wireless internet in my home, mainly for xbox live. My question is that my computer is downstairs, and my Xbox is upstairs. Will my router be able to reach the wireless bridge upstairs connected to my Xbox? Does wireless internet spread throughout the whole house, or just the level where the router/access point is?

I’m thinking about buying a linksys router that is also an access point, and of course a linksys bridge to connect to my xbox.

Wireless Ethernet connection? Help <–?

Let’s say that I have 2 computers, both desktops, and both in far separate rooms. I can’t reach both of them through Ethernet wires from my router, and I just did some research and found out that a "Wireless Ethernet Bridge" seems like a good idea.

My question is, what does this wireless bridge do exactly, and if I’m thinking right, the computers will have a sort of wireless plug from the back of the computer.

Last thing, is the ‘wireless plug’ into the back of the computer USB or does it go into the Ethernet port?

Thanks in advance.
I already have a modem that is connected to a router. This router feeds off 2 long wires to 2 different computers, I just want an easier way for them to have internet without all the hassle of wires everywhere.

Wireless Internet shared through wired router to another computer.?

I have 2 computers in my house.
Computer A is connected to a wireless belkin router using a wireless usb adapter. Internet works fine as you can see.

Computer B does not have working usb ports and thus cant use a wireless usb adapter.

I have another belkin router that I want computer A and computer B to connect to. How do I setup a bridge or ICS so that computer B connects to the internet through the belkin router and through computer A’s wireless connection. Both computers are windows xp pro SP3.

I have tried a simply ICS and comp B cant connect. I tried a lan/wireless bridge and for a time comp A could still use the internet but comp B could not. As soon as the bridge connected to the lan, comp B had a balloon popup that said there was an IP address conflict. I dont know where I would need to change the IP addresses since both the wired and wireless belkin routers use the same default getway of 192.168.2.1 and with the bridge the wired router is "unavailable". help?
I do not have the money for a wireless card in computer B, but I need B online and dont know where or how to setup Ip address manually nor know much about networking. If I were to connect B to A directly using ethernet cable I have concerns due to the mention on other sites of cross-over cables and null modems. I need a way to share computer A’s wireless internet to B with little to know money involved. Please.
