What happens when I disable a network (internet) connection in Windows XP?
Is disabling a network connection (my cable ethernet card) in Windows XP the same thing as unplugging the internet cable from the back of the computer?
Thanks

Just purchased an emachines EL1352G-41W and had to change the operating system back to Windows XP. The network card needs different drivers. I called emachines and they said that it was called a "gigabit ethernet card" but that’s all the info they had. We downloaded drivers but they were not working. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
It is integrated but XP is not even finding the network card.
Also, it is not listed on the emachines website.
Ok so, I have had a laptop since 2006 and lateley it has been running realy slow. So today i decide to completely restart my laptop so i got my windows xp disc from my desktop computer and installed it on my laptop. Everything works fine except now it doesn’t know that it has wireless network capibilities. How do i turn on wireless network and search for my wireless network
My computer installation is as follows:
*a first computer (laptop) under Windows XP , with ProxyPlus installed on it for internet access; local network IP 192.168.0.3; ProxyPlus is set with HTTP access port 8080;
* a second computer under Ubuntu, local network 192.168.0.1; it has internet access through the first machine I want to configure DG, which settings I have to do, and is it necessary to use tinyproxy or squid?
P.S. DG signifie Dansguardian
I am in the market of buying a new wireless router. The wireless router, needs to have great range, great wireless speeds, compatable with 2 Xbox 360′s playing toghter Simultaneously on Xbox live(one xbox will be wired to the router and the other will connect to the router threw a wireless bridge; I am using a linksysWGA54G wireless game adaptor), Nintendo wii,Nintendo DS, Ps2,Ps3 and a Windows xp computer.
Please note:
If you reccomened my a wireless router, please let me know if you had to do a firmware update, on that router.
Let me know if the router has needed a power cycle because something went wrong, like drop connection.
Please make sure, that for the Xbox’s that the router is going to make the Nat stay open.
Thank you for your time.
Essentially I have my Cable modem hooked through a wireless router which is then connected to my desktop via an ethernet cable.
I wirelessly connect to the web through my laptop.
I can’t seem to figure out how to set up a home network with this system. As far as I can tell windows networking requires my desktop to have a wireless adapter as well, even though it is connected to the wireless router.
I’m sure I’m being very stupid here and that this should be a simple thing to do.
If not is there any way around the need to get a wireless card for my desktop?
(I’m running Windows XP on both machines).
Thanks!
Thanks N2FC – but how do I get the two computers to see each other in the first place. I’m afraid I’m a novice at networking. The wireless networking setup wizard won’t connect the desktop because it doesn’t have a wireless adapter, and the standard networking wizard doesn’t detect the laptop because it isn’t physically connected to a LAN?
I need a kind of walk-through on how to do this…
Thanks.
I have a Windows Vista desktop computer here with a wireless router on it and a Windows XP netbook connected to my home network via the signal generated by said wireless router. How do I share folders between the two for easy file transfers?
I try to install the drivers off the motherboard where the network adapter is on. It still will not see it. When I installed windows xp, the driver.cab file seemed corrupted. windows will will not see the network card on the motherboard.
It should still find the network/ethernet adapter if I have the drivers from nvidia?
