Can a laptop have internet without wifi?

I have cable internet on my desktop and my brother somehow uses the same internet on his laptop somehow. He says he uses wifi but we dont have a wifi antenna so is that possible? And if so how? O and if i buy a netbook do u think i can use my desktops internet like he said he does?

If you lay an oni antenna horizontally, can you cover area below it that would otherwise be blind?

I have a wifi antenna that is upstairs and has god coverage except downstairs there is blind spot below it. The floors are only chipboard so the signal isnt blocked, I think its just the field of coverage of the antenna.

Looking at diagrams of the field of coverage, it looks like if i lay the antenna on floor, on horizontal instead of vertical plane, then it would have better coverage downstairs, is that correct?

Or any suggestions best way to get signal from upstairs to downstairs (no power points downstairs) .

Is there a way to Boost Wifi signal in home?

I recently told the cable company to F-off, but now i am left with a less than stellar public wifi signal coming from the next town over. I can only get online sitting in one room of the house, and the signal is weak. Im looking for any advice for a wifi remote signal booster/antenna deal, what to buy- an outdoor antenna/remote wifi antenna to attach to my computer itself? I would like ideally to be able to connect all our computers to the internet once again. Just wondering if anyone can explain this in retard-speak for someone like myself who gets confused easily. Pointing me to the correct websites would also be appreciated, i dont want to go grovelling back to that vile cable company!

Will I benefit from a new wifi router in my situation?

My family owns three laptops with 802.11n, and two old desktops which only have 802.11g. My current wifi antenna is an ancient Apple airport "snow" model, which only supports 802.11 a+b. Our internet is (as far as I know) only 1.5 Mbps, and the highest download rate I’ve ever seen (right next to the antennae, downloading from Steam) is 400kb/s, though most downloads cap around 200. The two older computers are upstairs, pretty much directly above the router, an the laptops move around the house. One room gets poor reception, which I suspect is the result of a large mirror near the entrance. Typical wifi performance on the newest laptop is:
RSSI: -70
Transmit Rate: 11

Will a new wifi antennae that supports the "n" standard improve our connection speed enough to justify the cost? And will "g" performance make a notable difference on our older computers?

Outdoor WiFi Antenna?

Can you take an outdoor WiFi antenna and connect it to an indoor router with an Ethernet input port so I can have wireless WiFi in the house. If so, where can I get a cable with an "N" connector on one end (for the antenna) and an RJ45 connector on the other end (for the router)?….thanks.
So if I have a WiFi outdoor antenna to receive a signal from a library nearby, what equipment do I need inside to connect the receive cable from the antenna?

where is the wifi antenna located on a macbook?

I have a black macbook and would like to know where the wifi antenna is.
Silly idea, but I want to put one of the cell phone reception booster strips over it. It works for my phone so why not the mac?

iPod wifi not working EMERGENCY?!!?

I have a private router That, before last night ALWAYS worked on my iPod and showed on my wifi list along with other possible connections. Now NO connections show up on my iPod and I am in the same location as before. The only connection I can BARELY get is to my personal router and it only works if my iPod is literally TOUCHING the router and only for a short time.

Every other feature is currently working except for that my iPod cannot register with windows.

Is my wifi antenna broken? What can I do? And I am dirt poor and have no money or resources for repair or buying a new one. Well I might be able to afford a repair but online I cannot find "iPod wifi antenna repair"?

Any valuable help is MUCH appreciated as my iPod is my life and I am running out of time (I am going on a trip) and I REALLY need help.

wifi signal too low?

i have a notebook computer and i got the internal wireless network card off of my friends notebook computer. at the library the connection worked well. but for christmas i got a wireless router. its netgear. when i disconnected the wifi card from my friends computer, it had the wifi antenna embedded into the frame of the computer so i had to cut a part of the antenna off so i only have a stub for antenna. a few days later i took a guitar string and then i connected it through the inside of the computer to the side of the screen and i used a big paper clip to. now i only get a limited signal strength. is there a way to extend the signal reach?
