I’m trying to beam internet up to my friends house using a wireless bridge (approx 320m LoS) with 20dB yagi antenna’s and so far it seems to be working alright, except i have a mess at my house from all the equip, so far i have a modem connected via cat5 to 2 routers. one single antenna router wireless(g) which is connected to the yagi to send internet up to my mates place and a 2-antenna wireless(n) for internet around the house.
my question is, can i buy a 2-antenna wireless(n) ADSL2+ router and have the yagi conected to one antenna jack and the omni-directional on the other? or do the clients have to see both antenna’s?
(cos the omni-directional definatly wont reach 320m
Why Linksys Is One Of The Best Cheap Wireless Routers Available Today?
There are so many of ways in which people connect to the Internet, but the number one way involves a wireless router. This router can be used to connect one computer, or multiple computers to the net. Some people attach it directly to a computer, while some people use a wireless network card to connect to the Internet without using any cords or wires. In most of cases users chose a wireless router to meet their needs.
The company Linksys is one the primary manufactures of routers used by a large number of the Internet service providers. When a customer decides to use a broadband system, to upgrade to wireless service, or decides to use high speed cable to access the internet, the company will send an installer out to the persons home or business. The installer will be in charge of connecting the router to the existing cable lines. From the time the call is made to the moment when the user can connect to the internet after the work is done can be as little as a few short days.
There are a ton of Internet service providers that do not utilize Linksys routers, but instead choose adifferent manufacturers. That does not mean that customers cannot take advantage of a router, but they will have to purchase their own. There are numerous companies and shops that sell these. They are available in mass quantity at stores like Target and Wal-Mart. Some electronics or specialty stores such as Toprouters.com also sell them too. Shoppers often find them on sale in the big stores, or they may include a mail in rebate. Other users may prefer to look for a router online at a store such as ours (Toprouters.com). These stores often provide substantial cheap discounts as compared to traditional stores. For instance the Router-G which retails for over can be found online for less than and often with free shipping.
Many people prefer to use a Linksys router because it allows them to connect several computers onto the same system or network. A household where one person uses a desktop computer and one or more people use a laptop computer find a router extremely helpful. They can attach the desktop computer directly to the wireless router using wires and cables. The other laptop computers can then be connected to the system or network using wireless network cards. Everyone in the house can use the same system or network without using the same computer.
A Linksys router is the most popular choice of routers for many households. The hardware can easily be found online, and easily installed onto one computer or multiple computers. Everyone in the household will have access to the same high speeds and wireless access, all without having to be in the same room. Many users can also use the hardware at the same time, all without causing any technical problems.

The Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there’s the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There’s also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology: Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N’s “Multiple In, Multiple Out” (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce “dead spots” in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.
Wireless Routers have now evolved from a useful to an almost indispensable device. This change can be attributed solely to their attribute of providing wireless internet access to unlimited number of users over a single internet connection. Their previous avatars, wired routers to provided multiple access ports over a single connection but with two limitations over wireless routers. These limitations were:
Specific Number of Ports
Wired routers came with a specific number of ports and that is why only that number of users could connect to the internet simultaneously.
No Wireless Access
Wired routers, as the name symbolizes, provided internet connection only with cables connecting the computers with the ports. The user did not have the freedom to move around while accessing the internet in the case of wired routers.

Buy Best & Excellent Wireless Routers For Your House Or Office
It allows the user to share files or data of a computer or a broadband internet connection among the computers in the network by using networking cables. This is one of the best ways of sharing a single internet connection between more than two computers in the network.
While selecting a router for your office or for the home several parameters and specifications should be considered. The different models offer different routers and with different specifications. Most of the market’s leading brands such as D-Link, Belkin, Linksys and NETGEAR offer wireless routers are meant for excellent performance. Considering the requirements and preferences this device should be selected.
This would become a daunting task for the people who do not have any idea about buying one. Here are few of the points which one should consider while buying routers.
The first and the foremost thing which one should consider is that it should very much compatible with your internet service provider. Most of the broadband connections are meant to support ADSL or Cable standard and not all of the routers support direct connectivity over co-axial cable. If such situation arises then you need to use your service provider’s modem for connectivity.
Some of the wireless routers offer an in-built modem and connectivity and can be straight forwardly connected to the telephone line. These do not require any modem from the internet service provider as they exhibit in-built modem for a telephone jack.
Before buying them one should read the product reviews, views, features and parameters carefully. For long distance communications, the broadband VoIP technology is available with the wireless router. This is the best ways of connecting your internet along with the facility to use voice communications.
It features an antenna which is one of the most important and necessary accessories of the device. It is used for improving radio signals generating from other devices in the network. It is very important if you are using wireless router for long distance.
The wireless routers that can be used for home or business places should have high speed connections and it is often used as a hardware firewall. Most of the technocrats believe that it also offers superior protection against hacking. This is because it restricts the direct exposure of IP address to internet.
The technology used in this excellent device has improved to greater extent in recent years. These devices provide bandwidth and offering the facility to connect more computers to Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN).
Most of the modern wireless routers make use of 802.11g specifications which helps in transmission at a speed of 54 megabits per second for a shorter distance.
There are a range of brands that offer excellent wireless routers such as D-Link, Belkin, Linksys and NETGEAR etc. Micronet has introduced SP916GK wireless router that is excellently rated for its outstanding performance. This is one of the most appropriate routers for any home or office.

When using my router my speeds often fall below advertised dial-up speeds. And this only happens on my laptop. Our other wireless devices work well. But I don’t think it’s my wireless card as it works fine with other routers.
When I’m hooked up to my ethernet cord it works like you’d expect it to.
I got a Pocket PC for Christmas that is Wi-Fi compatible. I also have a laptop that is Wi-Fi compatible. I have no routers of any kind. I would like to know how to connect these two wirelessly. Do I need a router to do that? I would also like to use the Internet on my Pocket PC. I do not have broadband, only dial-up. Do I need to buy a wireless dial-up modem, or would I be able to connect to the Internet through the local network, using the laptop’s Internet connection?
Okay, I have a Sony PSP and I was wondering if I had to buy a wireless router for internet access, or do I have to go to a place that has a wireless access point? Somewhere that has Wi-Fi. There’s a coffee shoppe downtown I might be able to get internet there on it. They have Wi-Fi, and suggestions about access points? Do you have any suggestions about the best routers to buy?
I have a laptop pc and a desktop pc. The laptop is wireless enabled, but the desktop isn’t. How do i use a ethernet crossover cable to share the internet connection with the desktop? I tried enabling ICS for the wireless connection, but it gave an error message about a LAN connection already using that IP address.
I can’t mess with the router settings because the routers not mine.
Thanks
You have heard the word hot spot but don’t know what this exactly is. With the advancement of technology connectivity has now become wireless and networking among computers and compatible devices are now possible without the use of wires. Don’t understand? Well, let me explain in a simpler way. There are some designated places where Wi-Fi is in operation and these places are often called hot spots. The places are for public access where the people can connect to the network and surf Internet with a wireless device like laptop, mobile, etc. Some hotspots are exclusively designated for authorized users like hotel guests, coffee shop customers, or library patrons.
To access the network in a hot spot, authentication is required. You may wonder how it is possible. This is made possible by Wi-Fi routers. Now obviously the question arises, how does a wireless router work? You certainly have experience of cordless phones. These phones use radio waves to connect a remote to a base device. A wireless network works almost in the very same way. Instead of a network cable, here data packets are sent to a variety of destinations. For router configuration, you can consult a computer repair service provider.
Before delving deep into discussion, let’s have a look at what is Wi-Fi. We are now a days very much familiar with this term but it mainly refers to wirelessRouterwireless devices certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. You will find the Wi-Fi logo on the Certified Wi-Fi devices. This signifies that it has been tested by the alliance. But now we consider all the wireless routers as Wi-Fi routers, not necessarily whether it is certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance or not.
Have you ever used a wireless router? This is mainly a network router having a built-in access point. Like other routers its job is to exchange data between the Internet and a local area network. In many cases, we use standalone wireless access points where a standard router port is connected on one end while a wireless transceiver on the other. In both of the two cases, the transceiver sends and receives data via antennae. For accessing to a wireless network, it is a must to have a wireless network adapter. Almost all the modern day laptops and mobile phones have this feature inbuilt.
Now, we will discuss on how Wif-Fi operation is done. To access to a wireless network the client device needs to have authorization. There are security feature that block intruders from accessing the facility. Once the connection is allowed to enter, the device can send and receive data from the Internet or from another local networked device.
I was trying to submit my Wi-Fi access point at this website (http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php) because Apple encouraged me to do so in order to correct the "Your location could not be determined" error on my iPod. So I pinpointed my house on their map, but then it asked me to provide them with the MAC address of my wireless access point. How do I find this? I downloaded the software they recommended to find it, but it didn’t work. Thanks in advance for your help. Oh, I’m not a huge computer nerd, so please be patient with me, thanks!
oops, the link was broken… I’ll try again.
is that label the MAC address for the wireless radio thingy in the router? because that’s the one I need. The website told me that most wifi routers have more than 1 mac address and I need the one for the wireless radio in it.
