I’m trying to connect my 360 to an access point but I’m having some trouble. Quick overview:

We have a belkin wireless router upstairs but my xbox is downstairs. I don’t have a wireless adapter for the xbox but I have another router (that can be used as an access point). What I want to do is set up the access point to receive the wireless signal and plug the xbox into the access point so the xbox "thinks" its a LAN connection. The router I set up as an access point is a D-link wbr-2310.

I’ve uploaded some pictures (just click the following link then click either scan 1 or scan 2). Scan 2 is just showing the location of the equipment through the house, scan 1 is a diagram of what I’m trying to do (dotted line is wireless signal and solid line is LAN):

http://students.washington.edu/coreyg3/wireless/

Any info will help! Thanks in advance!
@Brandon, I have a ps3 lol but I’m home for the summer and my brother has the 360
@Joe Macoosa, As far as getting to the menu you are reffering to, I know how to get there. The wbr-2310 can in fact be used as an access point.

I’ve gone to 192.168.0.1 (my routers ip – the one I am using as an access point) and set the SSID, password, channel to the same as my wireless router. I’ve updated to the latest firmware (1.05 for the d-link) and I Think eveything should be good to go.But when I plug it into the xbox, and go to network connections via the xbox, it asks for the PPOE information – I don’t really know what that is. I’ve put in the SSID and everything, but still not working.

My cable modem comes in to the home office behind my garage, which is diconnected from my house. I currently have a setup where I have a Netgear access point in the office and one in the attic in the house, and they work together in bridge mode. The access point in the attic serves the house. This has been working just fine for nearly two years but the performance is a bit slow as the distance between the two routers is a bit much for the Netgears.

I’m wondering if I bought two of the Belkin Wireless Pre-N Routers, could I achieve the same setup? I don’t see anything about using these devices to create a bridge anywhere in the documentation.

Is there another setup you recommend?

Thanks,
ian

My wireless router is set to WPA, and NO I do not want to switch it to WEP for security reasons. As some of you know, the Wii allows you to connect to WPA routers while the DS does not have this feature. I was wondering if I could connect to the internet with my Wii, and connect my DS to my Wii to use the internet.
If this is not possible, is the DS able to connect to ANY WIFI USB connector or do I have to use the Nintendo Wifi USB Connector.

Heres a picture of the Nintendo Wifi USB connector:

I am asking this because the discontinued the Nintendo Wifi USB connector, and I am planning to buy another brand of Wifi USB connectors.

The dual band wireless routers give the most options. This is because they support just about any client or adapter on the market. These are some of the most expensive routers on the market, but you can get away with using a single band if the area you are using it in doesn’t get bombarded by an overabundance of WiFi signals.

The wireless -N has quickly made the use of a Wireless -G a thing of the past, if you are still using one it may just be time to upgrade. The new wireless routers were too expensive for the average working person to afford at one time, but the manufacture cost of this piece of equipment has leveled out and the price has been lowered considerably.

Below you will find descriptions of the best wireless routers for 2011. They all pack a punch and will give you the access speed you desire.

The number one wireless outer for 2011 is made by Cisco and is the Linksys. This beauty has high marks in all of the performance areas that are important to consumers. The installation is a snap, the price is not steep and it handles a pretty decent sized network. Speed, is what you get with this baby.

This model also comes as a dual band, what this means for the consumer is that the device will pick up two different wireless modems. This is generally used when implementing a second security level for your network. This device also experiences less signal interference. Its biggest draw back would be the lack of USB ports. These you will need if you intend to link external hard drives and printers to your network.

The second best type of wireless router on the list for 2011 is the WRT610N. Although similar to he one mentioned above it doesn’t provide the dual connection for the second modem. This one is gigabit Ethernet for more speed. If was a dual modem model it would have made number one.

Coming in third is the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. This is the wireless outer you will need for any systems that uses Apple components. The Mac doesn’t work quite as good with any other type of wireless router. This Airport will let you attach the iPod touch, iPhone and Apple TV right into you networks. It is a lot more expensive since it can handle up to 50 connections and has a full one-year warranty.

Sitting pretty in the fourth position is the NetGear Rangemax WNDR3700. This is also a dual band wireless router. Although this is a very high – end device it only takes a few minutes to install. This one has the longest range of all the ones mentioned here. If you are setting up a basement office this is the one to get. It filters out interference from cell phones and microwave ovens.

If you were considering a cheap wireless router, you should think on that decision again. Most people that purchase cheap models eventually realize that they are not doing the job that they need for the device to do at all well. saving to buy a more expensive model will serve you well in the end.

WiFi in a Jiffy, WOOT. [ www.chinavasion.com ] Fast and cheap internet access is getting as simple as plugging in a wireless modem. Who would like this: Business travelers, people who need to connect to the internet when they’re on the road would love this wireless modem. What eBay keywords can I use: usb modem, 3g mobile phone, modem drivers, gprs modem, gsm gprs, gsm modem, 3g modem, mobile modem, 3g mobile, sim card, wireless modem, usb wireless modem When it comes to working with your laptop on the road, or even checking your emails between wired modems then you’re usually stuck. It’s an expensive process that’ll take time and give you spotty and or slow results. Sure there are plenty of wireless modems and gsm modems out there but not a 3g modem to be seen. But don’t fear, some China manufacturer problem solvers are onto it with a wholesale solution. A couple of very clever China wholesale mobile manufacturers have come up with a way to get your 3G mobile SIM card to multitask and work as an external USB modem as well. The 3G HSDPA + EDGE USB Modem is a pretty cool USB modem that you just plug into your notebook, make sure the SIM card is plugged in and you’re away. The USB modem works within pretty much any mobile network and will play nicely with GSM, GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA and HSDPA networks. Not to shabby for a wholesale 3 USB modem. Not having to worry about modem drivers is also blessing as all the modem drivers are plugged directly into the USB so this GPRS modem …

Here’s the scenario: We used to have two separate routers in our home network- some Westell router and of course the trusty Linksys WRT54G router as a range extender. However, when we switched to the AT&T internet, those guys brought their own special router, which replaced both of our existing ones. So the deal is, those two perfectly good routers have been sitting in the closet, collecting dust and god knows what else. And we happen to have an extra PC in the basement, also gathering dust. Since we’re always fighting for the computer that has the printer attached to it, especially when it comes to school projects, I decided to set up a home server from the computer in the basement, with a printer attached to it so we can print from anywhere in the house. Since the ATT router is upstairs, I have no way of connecting the basement PC (soon to be server) to the home network except for a wireless adapter, which, considering the amount of wireless junk we already have, I really don’t want to buy.

Bottom line: is there any way I can configure the Linksys router to be used as wireless adapter for the PC, or
would configuring it as a Wireless Bridge allow it to "talk" to the primary router

thanks for any feedback
I’ve done my homework as far as DD-WRT is concerned; however, the one thing I didn’t understand was, after downloading the new firmware, how does one "flash" it to the router? I heard that you have to transfer the new firmware to the router by means of the web user interface, but I have yet to find such an interface. Thanks for responding!

Hi I have an 802.11n router connected to a device via ethernet. Both these devices must be downstairs for my convinience.
Upstairs in my loft I have my computer and several other devices that need to be connected to my network via ethernet. I do not want lots of cat5 coming from my loft to downstairs. I want to put another router or switch up in my loft that will bridge wirelessly with my router downstairs. This seems fairly straight forward except researching shows that I won’t be able to bridge wirelessly and also be able to use ethernet in my loft. I read about dd-wrt firmware allowing this but there only seem to be two 802.11n routers that are fully compatible (Linksys wrt350n & wrt600n) but I can’t seem to find anywhere to buy them. Is there any alternative ways I can achive this? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for your replies. I understand it is stupidly easy if I could just run a cat5 to a switch but I can not do it via cable. It must be via wireless that the two ap’s are connected. That is the most important part of the setup.
