Trying to set up my Linksys Wireless-G Access Point – asking me for SECURITY KEY. Where do I find this?

I set it up correctly, installed the software… but where it says Network Connections Available, I click on the Linksys and it tells me to enter a Security Key.. I’ve search the online help manual. Nothing. Can anyone help me find this or tell me what it is?

Can I print over a network with a wired printer connected to a secondary wireless access point?

I have a printer with an Ethernet port that I once used for network printing. However, a recent rearranging of my house puts my wireless router too far away for the printer’s Ethernet cable to reach it. However, I have a spare wireless router, some kind of Linksys G router. Is there any way to add the router, with the printer connected to it, to my preexisting wireless network so that I can print from any computer on my network? If so, how? Thanks.

360/PS3/Wii – Built-In Wireless? Or Wireless Bridge?

I was testing with the PS3′s internal wireless, and it sometimes has connectivity issues when I first connect. The 360 doesn’t have on-board wifi, and it costs 50-100 bucks, just for the regular wireless adapter. The wii has wi-fi only, with a or so dollar part for ethernet. My question is this: Is it worth keeping the system wireless, and getting the X-Box 360? Or would I get better signal putting a Linksys WET610N wireless bridge closer to the router [same room], and running cabling through a switch to my consoles? Which one might have the better performance?

Setup Linksys WAP54G To Extent The Signal Of A Linksys Router

Setup Linksys WAP54G To Extent The Signal Of A Linksys Router

You can setup the Linksys wireless-G access point as an access Point, wireless repeater, access point client, and wireless bridge. The Linksys wireless repeater mode will turn your Linksys wireless-g access point into a wireless repeater in order to extend the range of your wireless signal generated by a Linksys router or another Linksys wireless access point. In addition, the Linksys wireless access point WAP54G can work as a wireless repeater with these Linksys devices: Linksys Wireless-G Access Point (WAP54G) and Linksys Wireless-G Router (WRT54G).

To setup your Linksys wireless access point as a wireless repeater, you have to do two things: checking the wireless MAC address of your wireless router or access point, and setup the wireless repeater mode on the Linksys wireless access point WAP54G.
To Setup the wireless repeater mode on the WAP54G Linksys wireless access point, read the following step by step procedure:

Step 1: Open your Linksys access point’s web-based setup interface. If you do not know how to do it on Mac, then refer to the Linksys support site for more information.

Step 2: Once your Linksys access point’s web-based setup interface opens, click on AP Mode, and then click on Wireless Repeater. Take into account that the Linksys wireless access point’s web-based setup interface may differ depending on your actual Linksys wireless access point’s version number.

Step 3: in the Remote Access Point’s LAN MAC Address field, enter the wireless MAC address of the wireless router or wireless access point that the current wireless access will extend its signal. In addition, make sure to remove the colons when you enter the wireless MAC address on the Remote Access Point’s LAN MAC Address field.

Step 4: Click on the Save Settings button.

Finally, if you will connect the actual Linksys wireless repeater to another Linksys wireless access point such as WAP54G, then try to modify the LAN IP address of the wireless repeater.

Configure Basic Wireless Settings on Linksys Router For CCNA

Configure Basic Wireless Settings on Linksys Router For CCNA

This article will show you how to perform basic wireless setup in order to enable wireless communication between your wireless computers located on your home/office network. This article is designed for CCNA students, network engineers, and anyone looking to do basic wireless setup on a Linksys router. This article falls under the CCNA syllabus’s objective “Explain and select the appropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN”.

To start configuring wireless settings, you can open the Basic Wireless Settings screen, which is located under the Wireless tab. This screen allows you to set these parameters:

* Wireless network mode: allows you to select the wireless standards running on your home network.

* Wireless Network Name (SSID): allows you to enter a name for your wireless network. SSID or Service Set IDentifier is a string used to identify your wireless network. You can use it as a secret key in order to connect to your wireless network.

* Wireless Channel: allows you to select the appropriate channel for your wireless network. Wireless interfaces communicate with each other using radio frequency signals in the band between 2.4 GHz and 2.5 GHz.

* Wireless SSID Broadcast: allows the broadcasting of your SSID in order to help your network users find your wireless network easily. You can also disable this behavior whenever you want.

The following steps describe how to configure your Linksys router in order to enable wireless communication on your network:

Step 1: Open your favorite web browser application, and enter the IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address field. Then press Enter.

Step 2: In the authentication dialog box, enter the administrator’s username and password. The default values are admin/admin for the username/password. However, on some Linksys router platforms, the default value for the username is the blank and for the password is admin.

Step 3: Open the Wireless tab.

Step 4: In the Wireless Network Mode drop-down menu, select Mixed if your have both 802.11g and 802.11n wireless devices. If not, then select either G-Only or N-Only depending on the wireless standard used on your network.

Step 5: Enter a name for your network. Your network users will use the SSID to recognize your wireless network whenever they survey the local area for wireless networks. The default value for this parameter is linksys.

Step 6: Select your wireless channel.

Step 7: Select Enable in order to broadcast your SSID or Disable if you want to disable this behavior.

Step 8: Click Save Settings in order to save your configuration.
