How do I use the smart wiring that came with my new house to send get internet access to all jacks?
I have a Leviton Voice Data System and internet access through a cable modem.
I have a Leviton Voice Data System and internet access through a cable modem.
Essentially I have my Cable modem hooked through a wireless router which is then connected to my desktop via an ethernet cable.
I wirelessly connect to the web through my laptop.
I can’t seem to figure out how to set up a home network with this system. As far as I can tell windows networking requires my desktop to have a wireless adapter as well, even though it is connected to the wireless router.
I’m sure I’m being very stupid here and that this should be a simple thing to do.
If not is there any way around the need to get a wireless card for my desktop?
(I’m running Windows XP on both machines).
Thanks!
Thanks N2FC – but how do I get the two computers to see each other in the first place. I’m afraid I’m a novice at networking. The wireless networking setup wizard won’t connect the desktop because it doesn’t have a wireless adapter, and the standard networking wizard doesn’t detect the laptop because it isn’t physically connected to a LAN?
I need a kind of walk-through on how to do this…
Thanks.
I’m trying to connect it to the network but I have no clue how to even set up a network on my computer. (I have Windows Vista btw). i think it’s linksys and its supposed to be a wireless connection.
It’s also a desktop, not a laptop
Does a cable modem work as a wireless router too?
actually i was wrong, its not linksys, its a motorola sb5101
Whenever we connect to xbox live, our wireless network just stops broadcasting. It’s not like our connection gets a little bit slower its just no longer there. We run live through our router, which is connected directly to the cable modem
Suddenly I cannot get on the internet on my desktop computer. It shows connected with no problems but no websites will come up. I’ve tried to disconnect and reconnect along with reseting the modem and router. I’ve changed the cables and still no luck. My laptop is working fine which goes through a wireless router attached to the desktop. I have cable for internet access. Do you think its the cable modem? I’d hate to go buy a new modem and still have the same problem. Can anyone help me?
I have a cable modem hooked up to my computer. I was wondering if I can plug my wireless adapter into my Xbox 360 via USB for an internet connection. Will that work?
I have cable internet and a linksys wireless router to connect my desk and family computers. The installation tech for the cable modem said I had such a good connection with the wireless system that in my small development, other wireless cards might accidentally link with my network. How do I prevent this?
I have two computers on the 1st floor which is connected to the cable broadband via wireless as the cable modem and the wireless network is in the basement.
I have two printers and both are Ethernet capable. In my old house, I had everything in one room, and I plugged the two printers into the router and everything worked perfectly. This setup doesn’t work in my new house.
How can I hook up these two Ethernet printers to the network (without hooking them up through computers, as I don’t want to keep the computers running all the time).
Can I buy a wireless print server, connect the print server (on the first floor) with the wireless network (in the basement) via 54G and then use ethernet cables to attach the printers to the print server?
Or is there any easier way?
What type of printer server do you recommend?
I just moved to a new place and when i moved I brought with my cable modem and d-link wireless router with me. It was working fine at the previous place. The cable company was here earlier today and hooked everything up- everything seemed to be working fine at that time. Since I have been home I have had problems staying connected to the internet. When I try to repair the problem on my computer it says there may be a problem with my DNS. If I take out the power cord from the d-link router for a few seconds and put it back in this usually solves the problem but I cannot be running up and down the stairs everytime my computer stops – there has to be something I can do. HELP! If more information is needed please ask!
Can I use it as a router? Can somebody give me basic step by step instructions to use this with a basic cable modem?
