How to set up a home wireless network?

i haven’t bought any equipment. i plan to use it for file-sharing such as games. but i read i have to buy (network cards) but i don’t know if it is the same as (network adapters). i don’t know how to set up all the router wiring from my broadband internet connection. i have three unused computers which i plan to use. but the Access Point, wiring, configuration, and everything related seems difficult. i would really appreciate step-by-step instructions WITH NO DIFFICULT WORDS I WOULDN’T UNDERSTAND throughout the connection of my wireless network of three computers using high speed internet from TWC(timewarnercable). I have read many articles about this but i just don’t find the easiest way of setting up my three computers using routers, network cards, ethernet connections, and configuration.

Wireless Access Point / Signal Enhancement?

I have a bit of a project ahead of me

I’m looking to Increase my Wireless signal.
Being in a Basement apartment causes some grief with this issue.

Now My hope is to do this for under 100$ FREE being better
I have two extra routers to work with a D-Link WBR 1310
and a TRENDnet tew-432brp

Now I know their old and Junk (TRENDnet)

So , I was hoping to turn one of them into a Repeater , Access point, something to enhance my signal to increase my Connection for both my PC’s.

Any ideas on how to do this?
My Primary Router is a Wirless N Cisco

My end hope is to achieve at least a 80-100% connection rate for my apartment depending on my location of course. Something Gaming worthy , Stream Worthy and more importantly Backup worthy. I daily back up to an off site server I have.

I welcome all Ideas, options , and Theory’s alike. More then willing to attempt them.

Thanks in Advance
Well unfortunately the Wireless N has no external Antenna , nor does it have the ability to add one it seems.

I need a situation that has no wires. This is why it’s more then a typical project for me.

So , unfortunately I Won’t be able to use any wires with this..

My hope was to get the Wireless N to connect to one of the Standard Routers and then (essentially) bounce the signal from the router to my PC’s and any other things.. Gaming Consoles etc..

So
Main Floor Wireless N —> Router G in Basement —> PC(s)

How can i make my Desktop part of a wireless network?

My laptop already has a built in wireless adapter, and I was able to surf wirelessly in my little basement using my landlord home network (with his permeation). But, I also want to be able to surf using my desktop which, currently, is not part of the network. What kind adapter do I have to buy, and will it also let me share files with my laptop. I don’t have any control of the access point; since it is not my network, but my landlord doesn’t mind if I use the network without getting him in to any kind complication. Please help me sweeten my life.
Tanks!

Wireless Ethernet Bridge or Access Point?

Fundamentally, I’m trying to figure out the difference between a wireless ethernet bridge and access point…..but here’s what I want to do: I’m considering buying the iXPS Internet Message Clock, which needs a wired ethernet connection. I would like to move the iXPS around to house, so I need a wireless connection.

Here’s the setup of my network right now: the cable modem is connected to a wireless router, which also has 4 wired ports. One of those wired ports is connected to a secondary router, which I had to configure to have a fixed IP or something like that so it would work. On that secondary 4-port router, I have connected a laptop, the ethernet cable from the main router, an external hard drive, and a printer.

So I was wondering if a wireless ethernet bridge would do the trick by connecting one to the iXPS. If I did that, would I need to add anything to the wireless router (like another ethernet bridge), or would the configuration work properly whereby the router can communicate with the ethernet bridge?

Any help you can give would be appreciated, thanks!!

How significantly can laptop WiFi reception be improved by using a USB wireless adapter?

As opposed to using the built-in wireless antenna. Is there a huge difference, or just a small difference?

Thanks!
By the way, I have a 1 1/2 year old HP laptop. Sometimes I’m a long distance away from the access point (I get 1 or 2 bars, if I can even see the network at all).
