I’m adding a wireless Access Point to my wireless network. What do I set the SSID & channel to?
Right now my wireless router and my new wireless access point are set to the same SSID & have the same WEP key. My intent is to have my devices talk to whichever unit has the stronger signal. Should they have the same channel too or will this cause some data collision or confusion?

Also, what about the MAC address? Should I set it the same too?

it should be fine, since your access point is also using your router as its gateway
if you need some troubleshooting guide follow the instruction on the link below

same channel, the router keeps track of what device is talking so it will be fine if you change the channel then you won’t connect to the strongest signal but the one on that channel

You should change the channel it will cause collision
The channel you should set it to should be >+/-3 from the channel
of the first access point
Because AP uses frequency range +/-3 from the channel set
So example you set the first to 6 the other access point should be >9 or <3
You can just leave the Mac address the wireless device identify usually by the SSID
