I have a wired modem now – can I switch to a wireless modem and how do you do that?
My wired DSL modem is connected to my wired desktop computer. I have a wireless N router and have a wireless laptop. I am going to purchase a new desktop computer or another wireless laptop. Can I get a wireless DSL modem to go completely wireless or how does this work? I know a little about computers, but not much. I am upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Hi.
As far as I know, there is no such thing as a wireless modem. The closest you can get would be a gateway with wireless. Your modem needs cabling of some sort to be able to receive the signal. DSL uses a phone line, Broadband uses a coax.
Standard set up would be an ethernet from your modem to your wireless router then you’re done for cabling if you’re making everything wireless.
The gateway however changes that. It’s basically a modem and router in one unit but all you’re really doing with this is cutting 1 step. Depending on what else you’re going to be using, you already have the router, why not just stay as you are and save money.
Gateways can very frustrating as far as port forwading goes. I had one for a couple of weeks so I could run 2 xboxes and a pc at the same time. There were port issues and when I changed what I needed to, the gateway just strarted messing up even worse.
