How to limit wireless internet access?
My son is always on the internet and now that he’s enrolling into college I want him to concentrate more on his studies. Is there a way I could schedule a block on the wireless router during a certain time of day? Ex. 10pm-10am.

You can ask the providers to do so.. they might be able to do it… I think you can do it on your own

there is, you need to login to your router by opening a web browser and in the URL Address bar type your router’s ip address, typically 192.168.1.1 then hit enter. it will ask for a name and password, this can vary depending on the router, try U: admin P:admin or U: admin P: (leave it blank). if these fail you can always google "router login for (name of router here)"
Once you get into the router it can also vary on the menu, but there should be something like "Access and Restrictions" which I believe is where you set up the time limit for the wireless. Good luck!

Well you can always disconnect your wireless router, that works and its easy. then just re-connect it in the morning.

not on the router, only on the computer itself can you set them controls. what you can do is to plug the router into a timer, and shut the router down between certain times. in the computer, you can limit access to certain sites, as well as set the time frame that the person can be on the computer. i hope this info helps your situation.

For college age, probably not. But then, by the time they get to college, they are supposed to be adult enough to practice decent time management.
Method one involves the router. Some allow you to put the internet on a time schedule. This is different for each router that can.
Another method involves using OpenDNS as your DNS servers. You get the additional benefit that it can filter the internet so bad sites don’t get through and you can turn off the Porn (bet that would make him mad!)
Both those solutions work on everybody, not just your son. You son can override your DNS settings on his computer if he knows how.

i need to know how the time limits set on the router can be circumvented and how this can be prevented please

If you mean to control his activities while at college forget it any solution you come up with would be circumvented in 10 minutes by any competent computer geek. The only solution you would have in that case is to get a gateway (not the computer company) device installed and then remotely manage it which would be expensive.
As for a solution at home the router can be configured deny access at certain times easily enough but this can be circumvented unless you are diligent.
Windows 7 does have parental controls that are effective but easily circumvented. All you have to do is boot a live Linux cd/USB session and goodbye controls.
You can deploy a gateway device that will be difficult to defeat. There is a Linux product called untangle that is fairly robust and could work for you at home. You will have to have a basic understanding of networking to use it. They actually have an install that you can place on one commuter and then control the connections of all the computers on the network. This can also act as content filter and actively manage certain connections like chat, file sharing and gaming. There are commercial products that work too.
