A few things to look into.
Access your "base router" using what you refer to as your "base ip." Within the web interface (programming inside the router you access using your "base ip" in your web browser for address), there should be reference to WAN or STATUS. You will see something like… "IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS1, DNS2, DNS3"… "something like." If an IP address exists, most likely your router is connected to the Internet.
Review the manual to your MODEM. Some MODEMS are DHCP servers within themselves providing "base ip’s". If this is the case, and your router is using the same "base ip" as your modem, it will not work. Resolve: change the base ip on your router and reset your network card or pc; whichever.
If you find the STATUS to your router (as identified above), and it’s zero’s or an IP that is similar to 192.168.xxx.xxx "similar", your router is not getting an IP from your modem. Verify your ISP uses DHCP. If not, ask ISP for IP, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS … find something referencing "Internet Connection Type" within your router, set it to STATIC, and enter the above.
If you can connect to your router, but not the Internet… it could be a DNS Address issue. I have several times experienced issues where the router would get the IP and DNS Addresses and the router would assign the network adapter an IP, yet for some reason it will not assign DNS. This will definately be true if you have your router set up as Static but no DNS addresses entered. Find your DNS addresses within the STATUS of your ROUTER, and enter them manually for your network adapter or if you have DHCP turned off in your router, be sure you have DNS addresses entered where your base ip is defined (within the router).
"I try my base ip address and it goes to my base." Your router will use as a base ip anything you give it. Be sure you are using a Private IP (example 192.168.xxx.xxx) for your base ip and not the IP address from your ISP. I mentioned this as you stated "I try my old ip add" and I don’t know what that is.
Some routers have a switch too, so router can be used as "Gateway" or "Router." Make certain the "switch" is set to Gateway.
You don’t mention your Internet connection type. If using DSL/DSL ‘type’, you need a User Name and Password from your ISP. Your router WAN would need to be set to PPPOE allowing for User Name and Password entry. If you MODEM has a web interface, you may need to use the User Name/Password within the MODEM, not the router and with router set for DHCP.
Could be other issues. Above most common. If you need DNS address’s but can’t find them, try using 68.94.156.1 and 68.94.157.1.
Best of luck.
