How do I make a wireless Internet connection work?
I’ve got a laptop that can support wireless connection. Currently I’ve got Internet through broadband ADSL, but I was thinking of using this connection on the desktop computer and use wireless on the laptop.
So what do I need? I’ve heard something about routers and wireless adaptors, but how exactly do these work? Will they work with ADSL? Are there specific routers/adaptors depending on the type of the connection, or any one will do?

If you are not familiar with how they work, I suggest you stay away from wireless unless you get a professional to come in and install it. The reason is wireless by default is not secure. Here’s just how bad it can get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A88XB7_Jz7s
Wireless networks are only needed if you have a device like a Blackberry that you want connected to your home network to get on the Internet. Then wireless makes sense because you want to travel from room to room. But if you are not traveling room to room, there is a much better alternative: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9KWdOLgylg

Any router will do and will connect to your wireless adapter in your laptop. If your’s is an ADSL connection (phone line based with a USB out) then you will probably be better to get a modem-router. This will replace your exisitng modem with a device that can also relay the internet wirelessly to your laptop – and a hard wired connection to your desktop at the same time.
Buy Netgear or D-Link or LinkSys brands
