How can I make my wireless network unsecure again?
My wireless network has always been unsecure. It is now secure and I can’t access it. I’m thinking someone is using my internet. Any thoughts?

reset your wireless router…. setup mac address filtering and add only your computer (s)… you can also give yourself a static ip address but make sure to put your router as your gateway and you can turn off ssid broadcasting.

First of all, plug the cable into your computer so you can have the access to the Internet through your modem. Then in the URL type: 192.168.1.1. Provide the password as "admin". Then you can change the SSID and password of the wireless connection. The best practice is keep the wireless secured, so other can’t access to the Internet via your modem.

If the someone is messing with you they may have put a password on the router config page. In that case your only option is to Reset the router.

in what way did you make it secure? Did you stop it from broadcasting its ID? Did you turn on WEP encryption? Or did you begin to filter MAC address? You being anyone in your family.
In any of these ways you need to go to the routers web interface page and change back the option. You will have to look at the instructions for your router to find the exact ip address to visit.
You could also try to unplug the router and do a hard reset. There should be a button on the back. Hold that down for about 10 seconds and it will return all your options to factory standard.

Have you set up the equivalent security on your PC?
When you set up the router’s wireless’s WEP/WPA or other security you need to set the equivalent security password on your PC.
So when you turned on the security of your router by entering a password that the WEP/WPA key is generated from via a browser and the router’s admin page (maybe something like 192.168.1.1). You also need to enter the same password when setting up Windows Network Connections for the wireless connection.

In your wireless router/access points configuration page you set the type of encryption to use on your network.
You will need to either tell us what type of wireless router/ap you have, or read the manual to determine how to access the configuration for it and enable encryption. You will also need to enable encryption on your laptop as well after you have set it up in the router/ap.

Log into your router and look under the security settings. Your WEP key should be displayed there, but I do not recommend removing it.
If your unsure how to log into your router it would be helpful if you post which router your using. Typically you log into your router in a web browser by typing your Default Gateway in the address bar. To find out your Default Gateway, open the command prompt and type ipconfig /all
Most home routers have an IP address near the beginning of your particular subnet such as 192.168.1.1 or something very similiar (look at your router’s instruction manual or locate the IP address by searching the router model on the manufacturer’s website). Different routers have different default username/password combinations, which you will definitely need to look up documentation for. Some do accept blank usernames and/or passwords, depending on the model.
