How can i connect on xbox live without wireless network adapter?

I have a Window XP Laptop and its on Wireless Network. I want to then plug the ethernet cable that comes with the 360 into my laptop and get on the internet there without buying the Xbox 360 Wireless Internet Adapter. Do you do something with the Xbox 360 under Networks or something else and where do you go on the 360 when you want to connect to Xbox Live that way. Thanks
