Do I have to connect my new wireless router to a physical computer via Ethernet chord?
I am confused. I have DSL on my phone line (the jack is very far away from my computer) and I was planning on connecting the dsl modem to the wireless router, and connecting wirelessly via my computer. But for some reason they are not communicating? Do I have to physically connect my computer to the router? If it helps my wireless router is a netgear WGT624 and my computer is a desktop. Thank you so much!

Nope, you can leave it all by itself and connect wirelessly.

You may have to connect to your router at first, to set it up. But then you should be able to communicate wirelessly.
Of course, your computer needs to have wi-fi abilities – either built in or via a USB device.

All you need is your modem connected to your router (make sure the cord in the router is in the right spot and not in one of the routers output spots) and you need a computer with a wireless internet card. Make sure the wireless internet is enabled on your computer.

I have DSL and a wireless router. I don’t have to have anything physically connected to the modem except the phone line. It should work for you anyway. If it isn’t recognizing your pc, do you have a wireless card for your pc? That or try unplugging the modem for a couple minutes and then plugging it back in. Sometimes they just need to be reset. Good luck!

Does your computer have a wireless card or built in wireless capabilities? If not get a card and follow the directions. You should be surfing wirelessly in no time flat.
And no you dont need to hook any computer up to the router for it to work.

the only way you would have to connect the PC with a wire is if the PC doesn’t have a wireless card. the wireless card is the device that connects the two wirlessly. most PC’s come with wired network interface card and no wireless.

You should use the cable provided to configure the router, then you can disconnect it once you have a wired connection working and have set up the wireless.

no u dont have to have the router on a pc at all …. u do need to configure the router and ur wireless adapter .. make sure the router is getting asigned an ip and ur adapter is powered on and set to automatically obtain an ip ..
