I have Satellite Internet access because DSL isn’t available where I live but I have line of sight into a fairly large city, Lancaster California and I play Everquest a lot. The Satellite connection is reliable but causes huge lag in the game due to the signal time to the Satellite and back to ground, 2 round trips per command. Drives me crazy… LOL Oh yes, No cable available here either. Only dial up.
The apartment that I live in does not have an Ethernet outlet, only a phone jack. The landlord pays for our wireless Internet. Is there a cheaper alternative to catching the wireless signal than to buy the Xbox brand adaptor?
I have a laptop already conneced to my talktalk wireless modem (this is what im using at the moment) now i want my old pc to do it it so i can acces the internet on that too. I already used the internet on that but it was a wired network instead and would now like to use the wireless. What do i need to do to make that happen as i have already discovered it won’t connect automatically.
I want to network my modded XBOX with my computer, how would I go about doing this?

What is Xbox live ?
Xbox live is Microsoft’s online gaming network for use with the Xbox 360 console. In my opinion this is far superior to PSN ( Sony’s Playstation Network ).
To get started , you need an Xbox console , a good internet connection with a low latency eg. ADSL. Wireless 3g and other wireless internet is not recommended because they have a slow latency. ADSL or CABLE internet is preferred because of its low latency. Additionally you need to purchase a Gold subscription to be able to play online. These come in either 3 month or 12 month , the 12 month account works out a little cheaper in the long run . There are many sites online that sell these subscriptions at a cheaper rate than from Microsoft themselves .
Once you have purchased either the 3 month gold or 12 month gold you switch on your Xbox360 and goto the option ” Join Xbox Live”
You fill in all the necessary details and when you get to the payment section there will be an option to ” Redeem code ” . Go into this option and continue to input the code given to you by the online store you purchased your 3 month gold or 12 month gold account from.
Once this has been completed you are now a Gold member ! Congrats!
Load up your favorite game ( We recommend games such as Gears of War 2 , Halo 3 , Call of duty etc. ) and Enter the gaming lobby
Put on your headset to communicate with the other online players and enjoy you online experience.
If you find that you enjoy playing with specific people you can add them as friends and continue to play with them in the future

i have comcast high speed internet and the modem connected to my desktop computer works fine. but when i connect the Ethernet cable to my dell insiron 6000 laptop it says mbps speed is 100 and its says acquiring network address, but it never actually connects to the internet

also, iv had this problem before only i had problems with the wifi and i had to reinstall xp on my laptop. i checked the broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller that goes with this laptop and thats fine. i really dont plan on reinstalling xp until i get another hard drive for it though…….
